2026 MPHL CHAMPION CROWNED

Ridley College hosted the 2026 Midwest Prep Hockey League (MPHL) Playoffs, where eight prep programs competed in a demanding three-day tournament defined by high intensity, discipline, and sacrifice. The event featured a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinal round.


Prep hockey represents one of the highest levels of amateur competition, where student-athletes balance rigorous academic demands with elite training, travel, and competition. Every shift reflects the commitment and resilience required to perform at this level, with players competing not only for championships but for development and future opportunities in junior and collegiate hockey.


In the first semifinal matchup, Ridley College edged Gilmour Academy in a tightly contested 1–0 battle, showcasing disciplined defense and strong goaltending. In the second semifinal, Shady Side Academy earned a decisive 4–2 victory over Lake Forest Academy to secure their spot in the championship game.


The championship final delivered another fast-paced and physical contest, as Ridley College defeated Shady Side Academy 4–2 to capture the 2026 MPHL title. The victory marks Ridley’s sixth league championship, reinforcing the program’s tradition of excellence.


For Shady Side Academy, the appearance marked a historic milestone, reaching the MPHL finals for the first time since 2002 — a testament to the program’s growth and perseverance.


The tournament highlighted the competitive spirit and dedication that define prep hockey, as teams demonstrated exceptional skill, relentless effort, and the sacrifices required to compete at the highest level of school-based hockey.
